Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894)
사실주의적 뛰어난 기술과 도시의 관찰자로서의 주제를 접목시킨 까이유보트는
17세기 더치 화가들의 쟝르화를 연상시키는 화면을 구사한다.
신선한 분위기와 자연스러운 순간의 포착, 그리고 도시화되어 가는 사회의 달라지는 모습을
자신의 감성으로 표현하고 있는 점이 아주 뛰어나다.
그는 파리인으로서의 정체성을 잘 보여주는데, 그러나 마네식의 사회적 모순이나 미술에 대한
비판적 시각도 모네와 같이 광학이나 인식에 대한 이론적 관심은 없다.
따라서 까이유보트의 작품은 고전적인 쟝르화와 비교될 만큼 일상적이고 단편적이며 사실적이다.
그러나 후자가 그 안에 숨은 어떤 상징이나 객관적으로 보이도록 계산된 모습을 전제로 한다면
까이유보트에게는 그러한 것이 없다.
모던사회의 파편들이 영화의 스틸처럼 명확하게 동시에 따뜻한 시선이 느껴지는 작품이다.
또한 그의 기술은 가히 놀라운 정도로 매력 있는 사실적 화면을 만들어 낸다.
