      Élisabeth Louise Vigée-Le Brun 파리에서 태어나 초상화가인 아버지의 가르침으로 그림을 시작하였다. 루벤스(Peter Paul Rubens, 1577-1640. Baroque Artist)의 영향을 밚이 받은 그녀는 1779년 프랑스 루이 XVI의 왕비 Mariie Antoinette의 초상화를 그리게 되는 큰 행운을 얻었다. Élisabeth는 다양한 포즈와 화려한 의상의 아름다운 마리 앙트와네트의 초상화를 최소한 25점 이상 그렸다. 두 여인은 친구로서 친밀하게 지냈으며 1783년 Élisabeth는 Royal Academy의 회원이 되었다. 1789년 프랑스 대혁명이 일어나자 그녀는 파리를 떠나 12년 동안 Rome, Naples, Vienna, Berlin, St. Petersburg, Moscow등지에서 여러나라 왕족과 귀족들의 초상화를 그리며 망명생활을 하였다. 1801년 파리로 돌아오지만 다시 나폴레옹 치하의 파리를 떠나 London과 Swiss에 머물다 1810년 파리로 돌아와 일생을 보내게 된다. 그녀는 그시대의 매우 뛰어난 초상화가였으며 초상화 622점 풍경화 200 여점등 다작의 작품을 남겼다. 웹글 옮김                 2009.11.2.
